Event 4: 9th Place, Patrick Heneghan – $2,079

$350 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-entry)

Blinds 15K/30K Ante 5K

Patrick Heneghan and Jermaine Phang got it all in pre-flop with Patrick holding KhKs and Jermaine AcKc. The flop came Qh2c2d keeping Heneghan in the lead. The Jh on the turn changed nothing and Phang said “how about an ace.” The dealer didn’t put out an Ace on the river. He did, however, put out the Td. “Broadway,” said Phang and a disappointed Patrick slammed his fist on the table as he was eliminated with that cruel river card. This was Heneghan’s 2nd deep run this week as he also went deep in Event 1. He takes home just over 2K for his finish in this tournament.

Event 4: 10th Place, Leroy Grant – $1,900

$350 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-entry)

Blinds 12K/24K Ante 3K

Ray Nalbandian opened the action to 55K from middle position and found callers in Leroy Grant from the hijack and Jermaine Phang from the big blind. The flop came 9c4d3h and Phang checked. Ray led out for 110K and Leroy moved all in. Jermaine folded and Ray made the call after a few moments of contemplation. Leroy held pocket 6’s and would need some help as Ray had Queens. The turn was the 7h giving Leroy a few more outs but the river was the Ac and Ray scored a huge double up moving him to over 1 million in chips and Leroy was left with 8K. He would be eliminated on the next hand with K-Q against Dennis Rodriguez’s A-Q.

Recap

“Winning is a habit,” is a recognizable Vince Lombardi quote by the NFL Hall of Famer, so it’s appropriate that Michael Moed (Miami Beach) won his 7th career title two days after the Super Bowl.

Moed gave up $500 from the $4,000 top prize to secure the win over Allen “Detroit Al” Green (Weston) at the Lucky Hearts Poker Open.

“It feels great, they all feel great,” said Moed who also won this event during last years Lucky Hearts at Hollywood. “The goal is to win, that’s why we play.”

“It went to a good player,” said runner-up Green, who earned $3,000 and is still looking for his first career recorded title. “He’s an excellent player.”

Moed said he was fortunate to make Day 2 after he survived an all in when Moed dodged, “two flush draws and all the low draws,” for a triple-up with just one pair.

13 players returned for Day 2, eight spots from the money. Start of the day chip leader Luis Santoni (Pembroke Pines) was the bubble boy and missed the money with a sixth place finish.

Richard Laskey (Okeechobee) and Max Jones (Orlando) were the first to cash, in 5th and 4th places, respectively, while Robert Goldfarb (Scottsdale, AZ) finished third. “Not a bad result for my first Stax tournament,” said Goldfarb after he played his first event of the series.

“I play the game I know,” said Moed, who admits to being unpredictable. “Let’s put it this way, when I have the nuts I always get paid.”

Moed, who earned $3,500 for the win, picked up his second cash of the series after he placed finished in fourth in Pot Limit Omaha.

After playing a dozen hands heads up, Michael Moed extends his chip lead from 35k to 100k over Allen Green when the two make a deal with Moed holding a 2.5 to 1 advantage.

Moed gives up $500 from the $4,000 top prize to earn the victory during the Lucky Hearts Poker Open.

“It feels great,” says Moed who picks up his second cash of the series. “They all feel great. Whether you’re playing against 10 people or a $10K buy-in, the goal is to win, that’s why we play.”

This Moed’s 7th career recorded live title and he goes back-to-back after winning this event last year when he chopped heads-up during the Lucky Hearts series at Hollywood.

Moed, who earned $3,500 for the win, finished in fourth place in the Pot Limit Omaha event earlier in the series.

Allen “Detroit Al” Green, seeing Michael Moed with a lot of momentum, takes a deal heads up and settles for second place.  Green gets an extra $500 for a $3,000 pay day, but gives up the trophy in the process.

“Coming in second, I don’t feel bad,” says Green, who finishes runner-up for the third time in his career. Green feels fortunate for a deep run after returning for Day 2 with a below average stack, but is still looking for his first win in live recorded tournament results.

“I’ve never been to Detroit in my life,” says Green about the nickname he got for his hair cut style that was popular in the 1950’s. “They called me Detroit Al, and it stuck.”

“Not a bad result for my first Stax tournament,” says Robert Goldfarb after his third place finish in his first event of the series. His elimination comes when Michael Moeb hits quad jacks.

“Nothing spectacular,” says Goldfarb about his tournament, “just poker, no bad beats or anything.”

Goldfarb earns $1,600 for his third place finish.

Ira Marcus was just eliminated in 12th place when he got all his chips all in with AsQc on a Ah6d2h flop and was up against Jermaine Phang and his AcKs. “Aaaaaahhhh,” moaned a dejected Marcus when Phang turned over his hand. The turn was the 5h and the river was the Tc to keep Phang in the lead.

Moments later, Luis Garda was eliminated to give us our final table of 10. Here are the payouts for 11th through 15th. We’ll have the final table and their chip counts in a few moments.
