Recap
“Winning is a habit,” is a recognizable Vince Lombardi quote by the NFL Hall of Famer, so it’s appropriate that Michael Moed (Miami Beach) won his 7th career title two days after the Super Bowl.
Moed gave up $500 from the $4,000 top prize to secure the win over Allen “Detroit Al” Green (Weston) at the Lucky Hearts Poker Open.
“It feels great, they all feel great,” said Moed who also won this event during last years Lucky Hearts at Hollywood. “The goal is to win, that’s why we play.”
“It went to a good player,” said runner-up Green, who earned $3,000 and is still looking for his first career recorded title. “He’s an excellent player.”
Moed said he was fortunate to make Day 2 after he survived an all in when Moed dodged, “two flush draws and all the low draws,” for a triple-up with just one pair.
13 players returned for Day 2, eight spots from the money. Start of the day chip leader Luis Santoni (Pembroke Pines) was the bubble boy and missed the money with a sixth place finish.
Richard Laskey (Okeechobee) and Max Jones (Orlando) were the first to cash, in 5th and 4th places, respectively, while Robert Goldfarb (Scottsdale, AZ) finished third. “Not a bad result for my first Stax tournament,” said Goldfarb after he played his first event of the series.
“I play the game I know,” said Moed, who admits to being unpredictable. “Let’s put it this way, when I have the nuts I always get paid.”
Moed, who earned $3,500 for the win, picked up his second cash of the series after he placed finished in fourth in Pot Limit Omaha.
