Mark Stephen Edwards, Event 4 Champion

The first Monday of the WSOP Circuit series had a fast-paced tournament on the schedule to award a title and some nice money all in one day. Event 4 was a $400 Double Stack Turbo tournament that drew 153 entries and Mark Stephen Edwards came from behind to win his second career WSOP Circuit ring.

Those entries created a prize pool worth $50,490 and the last 18 players shared some piece of that money. There were only 27 players remaining when they went on dinner and in the money not long after.

It was a tough field and former SHRP champ Angelo Miele held the chip lead when they formed the final table. But his advantage quickly disappeared after a series of tough hands that sent him out in ninth place.

Former WSOP bracelet and WSOP Circuit ring winner Tristan Wade was the most accomplished player to make the final table but he could not run up his short stack. He laddered up as others dropped out and he finished in fifth place.

Edwards was one of the shorter stacks at the start of the final table but won a big race early to double. He rode his growing stack to a heads-up battle with Francis Margaglione, another multiple SHRP champ, and they swapped the lead several times.

In the end, Edwards outlasted Margaglione to take the title. Margalione earned $8,425 but was disappointed to not win his first WSOP Circuit ring while Edwards took home $13,632. This is his second career WSOP Circuit ring with his first coming back in 2008.

Mark Stephen Edwards

Mark Stephen Edwards gradually took the lead from Francis Margaglione in his pursuit of another WSOP Circuit ring. Margaglione was down to 975,000 and open-shoved his button. Edwards checked his cards and quickly called.

Edwards: AsJh
Margaglione: Kc3h

Margaglione was live with a chance to double but Edwards moved further ahead on the Js5d4h flop. The 8h turn left Margaglione looking for one of three kings in the deck but the river blanked Th to send the rest of the chips to Edwards.

Margaglione took home $8,425 for his second place finish while Edwards banked $13,632 along with his second career WSOP Circuit ring.

Margaglione had a chance to end it when Edwards was all in with the board reading 4c3c2c3s2d. Margaglione folded, showed 2s for the bottom boat, and Edwards showed 5s. We will find out later if Edwards had it.

Our heads-up players took a short break after Stephen Diamantas was eliminated and Mark Stephen Edwards extended his lead when they returned.

Soon after, Francis Margaglione got his last 1,185,000 in the middle from the button and Edwards called with a chance to get his second WSOP Circuit ring.

Margaglione: AcKs
Edwards: Ad8d

Margaglione was in great shape for the double and the diamonds did not come in play on the Jh9s3d3s2c board to give him a small lead.

Francis Margaglione – 2,380,000
Mark Stephen Edwards – 2,210,000

Stephen Diamantas

Stephen Nussrallah exited the tournament on the heels of Tristan Wade and two hands later Stephen Diamantas was all in for ~300,000. Francis Margaglione had Diamantas at risk with a chance to get heads-up for the ring.

Diamantas: Qs8d
Margaglione: AcKd

Diamantas had two live cards but Margaglione improved on the Kh5s4h board. The Td turn and 2s river were no help and Diamantas was gone in third place.

Francis Margaglione – 1,700,000
Stephen Diamantas – Eliminated in 3rd place ($6,064)
Stephen Nussrallah – Eliminated in 4th place ($8,425)

Tristan Wade

Two bust outs hit quickly. Michael Rosenberg went out in sixth when his AsQs lost to Stephen Diamantas’ KdJh on a Qh6s6d6cKh board and Tristan Wade was at risk soon after.

Mark Stephen Edwards opened to 105,000 from the cutoff and Wade moved all in from the button for 610,000. The blinds released and Edwards thought for a minute before he called.

“I hope you have nines,” Edwards said.

He did not.

Wade: 8c8h
Edwards: TdTs

Wade was dominated and couldn’t find a save on the AdJd2hQdAh board to send the WSOP bracelet/WSOP Circuit ring winner out in fifth place.
