Fresh off a major tournament victory and $290,000 score in the Seminole Hard Rock Lucky Hearts Poker Open WPTDeepStacks Main Event is Boca Raton’s Mike Graffeo. Graffeo bested a tough field in Hollywood officially earning $290,687 along with a $3,000 WPTDeepStacks package and $5,250 seat in the Seminole Hard Rock Poke Open Championship this August.

The Brooklyn native is no stranger to the felt, but took a hiatus for a few years to spend more time with his children. He recently relocated to South Florida and hopes to play more events now that he’s within close proximity to plenty of options. The victory in Hollywood was the first tournament he’d played in two months and he wasted little time getting back in the action following the win.

He’s among the early field here in Coconut Creek and looks to earn additional points in the SHRP Player of the Year race.

More than 60 entries were registered when cards went in the air just about 35 minutes ago and the count has gone nowhere but up in the time since. Toward the end of Level 1, the clock reads 88 entries all but guaranteeing a prize pool in excess of $100,000.

Last year’s event drew 161 entries putting the total kiddie at $161,000. With a strong start, the 2017 installment is on pace to best that figure.

Marking the sixth of 10 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Championships, the $1,100 buy-in features a $100,000 guarantee and an added seat in the $5,250 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Championship set for this August.

Players are in their seats and cards in the air. New entries sit down to 25,000-chip starting stacks and are set to log 40-minute levels throughout the day. Late registration and re-entry are available until the start of Level 10 with Day 1 slated to conclude following Level 14 or at 12 percent of the starting field, whichever comes first.

Day 6 of the Coco Poker Showdown marks the beginning of the series premiere event — the $1,100 buy-in, $100,000 guaranteed Championship. The tournament is points eligible in the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Player of the Year race and awards an added $5,250 seat in next August’s Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Championship.

Last year’s event drew a field of 161 entries generating a total prize pool of $161,000. Florida pro Stu Paterson bested the decorated field earning $32,785 following a four-way chop.

Coconut Creek, FL — Nagui Yassa claimed his first major tournament title Friday night at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek. Yassa made his way through a field of 95 entries in Coco Poker Showdown Event 7, a $560 buy-in no limit hold’em tournament. He lead the way from three tables on and never looked back, claiming the chip lead late and going down as the victor following a five-way chop. The impressive performance earned Yassa $13,165.

Event 7 began alongside Day 2 of the Event 6 restart. As players busted Event 6, many moved right to the $560 to try their luck yet again. While Event 6 champion Sean Shah was a non-factor in the $560, other Event 6 final tablists made their presence known.

Both John Dollinger (Event 6 runner up) and Nachman Berlin (Event 6 10th-place finisher) graced the Event 7 final table. Dollinger min-cashed, busting ninth, while Berlin was a part of the chop officially going down as the third-place finisher earning $7,058.

It was Yassa who busted Dollinger ninth and Jason Leet in eighth. Berlin then took the reins, eliminating Stephen Greenstein in seventh and Rob Kessler did the sixth-place deed busting Paul Steiner. After that, tournament staff was called to run the numbers on an ICM chop. There was some brief debate, but ultimately the remaining five players agreed to a deal without any modifications.

Nagui Yassa is 67 years old and resides in Deerfield Beach, FL. A regular of Seminole Casino Coconut Creek, Yassa owns 18 reported tournament cashes and over $80,000 in earnings following the Event 7 win. The dominating performance came on the eve of the series’ $1,100 buy-in Championship and sends Yassa into the finale with a head of steam.

Following Paul Steiner’s sixth-place elimination, the remaining five players called the floor over to run ICM numbers. There was some brief debate, but ultimately all agreed to the deal with no modifications. In the end, chip leader Nagui Yassa — who claimed 897,000 chips — went down as the champion pocketing $13,165.

Paul Steiner open-shoved 22,000 from the cutoff. Nachman Berlin called from the small blind as did Rob Kessler from the big blind. Steiner was at risk against two opponents.

Berlin checked. Kessler bet 20,000. Berlin called.

River:

Berlin checked again. Kessler moved all in for 38,000. Berlin made a painstaking folded and Kessler quickly flipped over for the flopped nuts. Steiner owned for king-jack high and was eliminated in sixth place for $2,750.
