Event 11: Ian Pearson Captures Turbo Title

2018 World Series of Poker Circuit
Seminole Casino Coconut Creek
Coconut Creek, Florida
Event 11
$365 Turbo No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Entries: 128
Prize Pool: $38,400
February 17, 2018

While a lot of players were taking their shot at the World Series of Poker Circuit Main Event, one of the last ring events of the series played out in the back of the room. Turbo No Limit Hold’em Event 11 drew 128 entries with many of them already set for Day 2 in the main. Ian Pearson battled a late short stack near the bubble to earn his first WSOP Circuit ring for more than $10,000.

As expected with the format, players hit the rail in a hurry and only four tables remained when registration closed. The $365 buy-in tournament had a prize pool worth $38,400 and paid out the last 15 spots. Ari Engel, Staffan Lind, and Chris Halkitis were among those to make the money but none made the final table.

Local favorite Zoltan Czinkota hit the final table with a huge chip lead and built it as Jordan Joeckel, Ellen Lambeth, Karthik Ramakrishnan, and former SHRP Player of the Year David Prociak made their way to the payout desk.

Action settled down once they entered four-handed play with deepening stacks due to the quick eliminations. Matt Broderick went out in fourth place followed by Israel de la Cerda in third to start the heads-up match for the title.

Pearson pulled the chip lead away from Czinkota early and it was a coin flip in the early morning that settled the matter. Czinkota earned $6,646 for his runner-up result and Pearson picked up $10,752 along with the gold ring. It was a great comeback after he found himself with only 7,000 heading to the money bubble.

Pearson, 27 years old, is a poker dealer and part-time poker player when he’s not in the box. He has dozens of tournament scores but can now be included in the list of WSOP Circuit champions.
