J.P. Kolb, Monster Stack champion

The WSOP Circuit series went into Main Event weekend with a big multi-flight tournament. The $400 buy-in Monster Stack drew 711 entries, our biggest ever this tournament, and it more than doubled its $100,000 Guantee to creat a prize pool worth 234,630. At a tough final table, J.P. Kolb came from behind to win the title for his first WSOP Circuit ring along with $43,742.

“It feels great,” Kolb said after the win. “All my friends get on me for not having any jewelry. Now I can show them my ring.”

Day 2 has 58 players returning with a chance for the title including Mark Dube holding a huge lead on the field. The tournament quickly played down towards the final table and Dube was still in the mix but he fell in seventh place.

SHRP regular Matthew Yorra and Joseph Cox began the final table with the chip lead but Yorra gradually pulled ahead of everyone else as players dropped around him.

Yorra and Kolb began heads up play with Yorra holding a huge chip advantage. But it did not last long with Kolb doubling into the lead early in the match for the ring. Yorra worked his way back contention but it was a cooler to end it when Kolb’s aces held against Yorra’s flush draw with AsQs.

Yorra took home $27,034 for his runner-up finish while Kolb was happy with his success. The Louisiana grinder is making his first trip to Seminole Casino Coconut Creek and this was his first tournament. It’s a great way to start his weekend as he heads into the Main Event on Friday.
