Event 1: David MacDonald Takes the Chip Lead

John Depersio opens the button to 160,000, and Bienvenido Santiago calls in the hijack. Albert Eframoff three-bets to 320,000 in the cutoff, and David MacDonald four-bets to 700,000 on the button. Depersio and Santiago fold. Eframoff calls, though, and it’s heads up to the flop.

It comes 9d7h2s, and Eframoff bets 1,100,000. MacDonald moves all in for 2,400,000 total, and Eframoff calls, having his opponent slightly covered.

Cory Zeidman and George Fountoulakis discuss the numbers, and they reach a mutually agreeable deal. Zeidman gives up $800, and the match is called early.

Fountoulakis seems pleased enough with the result. “Second to Cory Zeidman. Not so bad,” he says aloud. It is a fine finish for the teacher from Palm City, locking up the largest cash of his career and nearly doubling his total previous live earnings. This runner-up effort is worth $5,175.

Zeidman, on the other hand, is a professional poker player from nearby Coral Springs, FL, and he has earned more than $600,000 in live tournaments. Although he spends a fair amount of time playing at Seminole Coconut Creek, this is his first cash in this building. It’s worth $7,425, and it comes with a $2,500 seat to the Coco Poker Open Championship Event, to be held on October 1.

Event 4: Into the Semifinals

Howard Mash won his quarterfinal match against Corey Dodd, and Kyle Taddei defeated November Niner Joshua Beckley to punch his ticket to the the semifinals. The final four is now set, and the two matches have begun.

For this round, players start with 50,000 chips, and the blinds begin at 500/1,000. Levels are increased to 20 minutes apiece.

Mike Chang is all in with his short stack, looking to triple up through Cory Zeidman and George Fountoulakis. When the cards are run out, Fountoulakis can only make a pair of sixes, and Chang rivers a pair of kings to take the lead. Zeidman pairs his ace on seventh street though, scooping the pot with aces up and sending Chang to the rail on the  direct bubble.
