Coconut Creek, Fla. (January 24, 2016) — Event 1 of the 2016 Coco Poker Showdown at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek concluded Sunday night in the newly-opened, first-level poker room. The first of nine events on the series schedule, Event 1, a $130 no limit hold’em tournament, drew a stout field of 1,156 entries. The opener boasted a $100,000 guarantee that was bested during the early stages of the sixth and final starting flight. In the end, the prize pool topped out at $115,600.
Following four days and more than 55 hours of play, David Albertson of Margate, Fla. emerged victorious in a three-way chop. Albertson owned nearly 9,000,000 of the 11,560,000 chips in play three handed. He took the lion’s share of the prize pool while Charlie Overstreet and Eric Riley split the remainder evenly. The deal saw Albertson score $25,225 while Overstreet and Riley earned $14,423 apiece.
Albertson is a 55-year-old contractor. He described himself as a local player who plays all the tournament series at Coconut Creek as well as those at the nearby Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Hollywood. The win marks his third career tournament victory, 39th cash and pushes him to nearly $130,000 in career earnings.
The Coco Poker Showdown runs daily between now and Sunday, January 31. In addition to Event 1, the 11-day series features two other premiere events. The first, a $350 buy-in $250,000 guaranteed no limit hold’em tournament with eight starting flights, begins this Tuesday. The second, the $1,100 buy-in $100,000 guaranteed Championship, kicks off next Saturday.
