From 34 starting, just nine players remain in Flight A of the Coco Poker Showdown $350.

As has been the case much of the event, Tim Kegel leads the action now with well over 200,000 chips. With a stack like Kegel’s it’s no surprise others at the table want to claim it as their own. During a recent photo opportunity, 2015 November Niner Neil Blumenfield leaned over and photo-bombed Kegel. Blumenfield owns well over $3,00,000 in career earnings but he’s well behind Kegel in chips currently owning about 50,000.

Others still in at the final table include Marc Levy, Daniel Pearlman and John Magnetta.

Play is scheduled to conclude when five players remain.

Level 7 is here and registration closed just moments ago in the Coco Poker Showdown $350 buy-in, $35,000 guarantee. With the late additions of Daniel Pearlman and Lucky Hearts Poker Open Main Event fourth-place finisher Marc Levy, the field grew to 34 entries. That accounts for just over $10,000 of the five-figure guarantee and is a good start with tonight’s 6pm flight still to come.

Per the structure sheet, the Flight A will conclude when 12 percent of the starting field — five players — remains. They’ll bag and tag set to return for Day 2 tomorrow at 12pm. All advancing players are in the money.

Tim Kegel has enjoyed a hot streak of cards since play resumed following the first break. Most recently, he had two players — including previous leader John Magnetta — at risk preflop.

Kegel flopped the jack, then turned the ace giving him the lead over both players. The river brought no set for either and Kegel scored a double elimination with aces up.

Prior to that, Kegel enjoyed another double elimination busting Evan Teitelbaum and Daniel Genachte when his flopped flush draw got there.

“Tim, that’s a sexy stack you have over there, sir!” an unknown tablemate laughed.

Kegel’s stack currently sits at about 90,000.

The first break concluded just moments ago and players are back in their seats with blinds of 200/400 and a 50 ante. Leading the 21 entries to this point with a stack of 36,000 chips is John Magnetta.

Magnetta owns more than $110,000 in reported tournament earnings including two deep runs during last week’s Lucky Hearts Poker Open in Hollywood. Magnetta has more than doubled his stack during the early goings of Event 6 and looks to continue his solid play this week in Coconut Creek.

In a four-way pot, the board laid . The small and big blinds checked sending it to Timothy Kegal and Daniel Genachte in middle position. Kegel bet 1,200 and Genachte promptly raised to 3,400. It was back on the small blind and he announced “call.” The big blind folded as did Kegel. Genachte flashed for an ace-high flush and took the pot.

The hand moved Genachte above starting stack as he now sits just below 20,000.

The Cock poker Showdown $350 is off to a modest start with 18 entries at the beginning of Level 3. Doing their part to grow field are a handful of notables — Neil Blumenfield, Nachman Berlin and Miguel Martinez are among those in their seats competing for a share of $35,000 guaranteed.

Blumenfield is a notable face in any event he plays. A recent Florida transplant, Blumenfield burst into the poker spotlight in a big way during the 2015 World Series of Poker Main Event. He graced the final table as part of the November Nine and went on to finish third for nearly $3,400,000. In the months since, he’s become a regular on the South Florida circuit and recorded numerous cashes including a 29th-place finish and $25,000 score in last August’s $5,000,000 guaranteed Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Championship.

Blumenfield has chipped up slightly during the first couple levels of Event 6 and sits above 20,000 chips.

The clock strikes 11am in South Florida and the first headline event of the 2017 Coco Poker Showdown is underway. Event 6, as it’s known, is a multi-flight, $350 buy-in tournament with a $35,000 guarantee. Flight A begins the action while Flight B continues it tonight at 6pm. The magic number to meet the five-figure guarantee is 117 combined entries.

Players take their seats to 16,000-chip starting stacks and are set to log 30-minute levels. Late registration and re-entry are available until the start of Level 7 (three hours plus breaks) with play concluding when the event narrows to 12 percent of the starters. Those fortunate enough to advanced return tomorrow at 12pm to jockey for the tournament’s top prize.
