Event 2 winner Andres Verona (Miami, Fla.)
Coconut Creek, Fla. (January 24, 2016) — Andres Verona won Event 2 of the Coco Poker Showdown at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek Sunday night. Verona, 27, bested a field of 112 entries in the $80 no limit hold’em deep stack turbo bounty tournament. He owned the chip lead three-handed and went down as the tournament’s champion following an even chop with Jim Newcomb and Genachte Daniel. Verona and Newcomb pocketed $964 while Daniel, the short stack at the time, won $963
“It feels great,” Verona said. “I came here today wanting to ship it. I didn’t care about the money. I was here to ship and that’s what happened.”
Verona’s number one railbird was Kaitlin Sims. “Poker’s dynamic duo”, as Sims described them, made their way to Coconut Creek to play in Event 1, the $100,000 guaranteed series opener. Verona fired two bullets to no avail. Sims, meanwhile, made it to Day 2 on one entry. While Sims was in the process of running deep in Event 1, Verona was building a stack in Event 2. Sims busted 32nd and headed straight to his rail. A mere couple hours later, Verona claimed victory and put an exclamation point on the pair’s trip to Coconut Creek.
Verona is a 27-year-old amateur from Miami.

As the owner of a commanding chip lead, Joseph Patalano began peddling chop deals when the table was three-handed. Marcus Stein admitted that the offers were more than fair, but he declined, suggesting that he might be more receptive during heads-up play.
When Robert Melo was eliminated in third place, Patalano tried again. He offered to give up $950 to his opponent, taking the $2,500 seat plus $2,330 in cash. Stein initially declined again, but the two men were still stalemated after several orbits of head-up play.
Finally, the dealer pitches each player their final four cards of the night, with Patalano still trying to sell his deal. “Twenty-nine fifty?” Stein confirms, almost sold on the deal.
Patalano nods.
“Chop it up,” Stein says, sending his cards back to the dealer.
Marcus Stein (Pembroke Pines, FL)
Stein earns $2,950 for his work today, officially finishing in second place.
Joseph Patalano (Wellington, FL)
Joseph Patalano is the champion of Event 2, earning $2,330 in cash, plus the seat in the Championship Event to be held on October 1.
