Michael Laake - 10th Place ($12,000)
Michael Laake – 10th Place ($12,000)

There was little movement over the first level back from break and we were in the process of updating chip counts when Michael Laake and James Brown played a seemingly innocent hand.

Nothing spectacular until the board was complete and reading AhJd7h6cAs. Laake moved all-in for ~400,000 and Brown took his time before calling with Ac7d. Laake briefly showed JxTx before mucking and sending his chips to Brown.

Championship: Garcia Doubles Thru Brown

$2,500 Coco Poker Open Championship
Level 22: 10,000/20,000/2,000 Ante

Cord Garcia opened to 45,000, Jean Gaspard called, and James Brown three-bet to 105,000 from the button. Garcia and Gaspard called to see the Td9s5h flop and Garcia moved all-in for 560,000.

Gaspard dropped his hand and Brown called with AcTs, ahead of Garcia’s open-ended straight draw and two overs with QsJs for the moment. The dealer put out the 8c turn to complete the straight and double Garcia.

Garcia: 1,500,000
Brown: 1,780,000

Championship: Bjerno Doubles Thru Affleck Before Break

$2,500 Coco Poker Open Championship
Level 21: 8,000/16,000/2,000 Ante

Players were getting ready to hit the second break of the day when Nathan Bjerno and Matt Affleck got involved in a big hand. Affleck opened from the button and called a three-bet from Bjerno from the big blind to see the 8d6d2h flop. Bjerno bet out 80,000 and Affleck called.

Bjerno shoved for 396,000 after the 5h turn and Affleck went into the tank. He eventually called with top pair 8c7c but was behind Bjerno’s over pair JcJd. The Ac provide no help and Bjerno got a big double.

Championship: Kornuth and Dolan Gone; Final Table Set

John Dolan - 11th Place ($12,000)
John Dolan – 11th Place ($12,000)

We spoke too soon and lost two players in quick succession. First up was starting Day 3 chip leader Chance Kornuth, he had a tough time since the last break and took a shot with AdQh beore Andre Pillow called with 9s9c.

They were racing for Kornuth’s tournament but the dry board ran Jh6c2s4hJc to send him out in 12th place for $12,000.

A few seconds later and defending John Dolan was facing an all-in bet from Cord Garcia with the board reading KhQh7d4d. Dolan was the shorter of the two stacks and went into deep-thought mode. After a few minutes, Dolan called with Kc8d and in trouble against Garcia’s AdKs.

The 4d river ended the tournament for the 2014 Coco Poker Open Champion.

Tournament staff are redrawing for the final table ten.

They slowed down long enough in Level 21 to grab a quick round of chips counts for the 12 remaining players. Jean “Prince” Gaspard is leading with Matt Affleck not far behind. No one is desperately short so we’ll see when they hit the brakes for good.

Championship: Fast Like Turbo

Level 21: 6,000/12,000/2,000 Ante

It’s tough to believe this pace can keep up but they are dropping almost faster than you can track. Bienvenido Santiago went out soon after they joined as two tables followed quickly by Jonathan Abla.

Before you could say “slow down”, Peter Walsworth was sent out and Hunter Cichy ran into a bad flop against Kevin Ho. He was all-in for his last 79,000 with Kc9c and Ho called with As2s. Cichy’s chances took a big hit on the Ts9s7s flop and he was drawing dead on the Ah river.

It’s also been a tough level for former leader Chance Kornuth. After a series of doubling up opponents, he’s down to 390,000 and one of the short stacks.

Alberto Rodriguez (left) gets four flushed by Peter Walsworth (right)
Alberto Rodriguez (left) gets four flushed by Peter Walsworth (right)

With four quick exits, the Championship is down to the last two tables with no signs of slowing down. Shea Smith and Brandon Miller went out right after the break with Alberto Rodriguez following after a tough beat.

Peter Walsworth opened from early position and Rodriguez followed with a three-bet shove. Walsworth liked the price he was getting though he told Rodriguez “I’m not that strong”.

Walsworth needed to catch with QcTd to send Rodriguez out showing AsQs. The 6h5d2d was harmless but Walsworth added a flush draw on the 3d turn. The backdoor flush draw got there on the 9d river to send Rodriguez out in 20th.

They broke a table to get down to 18 remaining when T.K. Miles and Matt Affleck mixed it up. Affleck opened from  under the gun and Miles shipped from the big blind with Ac7c. Affleck called with AdTd and they both hit the Tc7s2c flop. They 4d turn and 2h river finished Miles off and staff broke the first table of the day.
