Recap:
The fifth event of the 2014 Coco Poker Open drew a nice crowd of players looking to capture the title but also knock a few opponents out along the way. After 22 levels of play, local grinder Richard Kessler was the last player standing when he picked up a couple of bounties to go with $4,684 he earned for the title.

The tournament featured a $25,000 guaranteed prize pool and they exceeded that number to pay out $27,090 to the players. Each player had $100 of their buy-in on their heads in the form of a knock out bounty, this added incentive kept the aggression high throughout the tournament.

The event was initially scheduled to play down to a winner in one day but the size of the field meant the final nine players would return for an extra day of action. Local Steven Bennett began the restart with the chip lead and they lost several players in a hurry.

Andres Morals, Linroy Freeman, and Paul Steiner all began the day with shorter stacks but were unable to find a way to give themselves a change at the title. Paula Alibrandi sat back and let that trio hit the payout desk before she finally dropped out in 4th spot.

Man Le, Richard Kessler, and Bennett traded the lead after a long three-handed process but Bennett was finally able to knock out his nemesis. They heads up battle also went back and forth before Bennett took a stand with As2h but could not beat the 8s8d of Kessler.

Richard Kessler earned the biggest tournament cash of his career and his first since a final table finish during the 2014 WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open.

Event 5: Richard Kessler Captures Title

$250 No Limit Hold’em Black Chip Bounty
Blinds: 8k/16k/2k ante

Richard Kessler doubled into the chip lead shortly after the start of heads up play but they were soon in a dead heat as Steven “Mike” Bennett chipped back up.

The two played small ball for nearly an hour without either taking a big advantage until the final hand put the tournament to bed.

Bennett was all-in with As2h after saying he couldn’t fold an Ace at that point and Kessler was a big favorite with 8s8d. The Qd9d5d took away one of Bennett’s outs before the 7d turn left him drawing dead.

The two could have battled for a long time but they were done after four hours of final table action. Bennett takes home $2,696 for his efforts but he knows he could have won it all earlier. Kessler earned $4,684 for the win, his biggest tournament cash to date.

Event 5: Kessler Doubles

$250 No Limit Hold’em Black Chip Bounty
Blinds: 5k/10k/1k ante

Two hands into heads up play and there was a quick momentum switch. Richard Kessler and Steven Bennett were playing it slow until the board read AcKc2d7s. Kessler immediately moved all-in to really make Bennett think.

He talked through the hand and decided Kessler didn’t have an Ace and called with KsQc but found out he was wrong when Kessler tabled As6h. The river was a blank 7s to put Kessler in the lead.

Event 5: 3rd Place – Man Le ($1,774)

$250 No Limit Hold’em Black Chip Bounty
Blinds: 5k/10k/1k ante

Man Le took two hands before getting his stack in the middle. The Richard Kessler double left him as the shortest stack and he moved all-in for his final 95,000 on the AdJc5d flop. He was behind with Jh7d against Steven Bennett’s As9d.

Bennett has been unable to take Le out on several occasions but did just that when the board finished 6sTh. Le was gone in 3rd place for $1,774 while Bennett moved further into the lead.

Event 5: Doubles All Around

$250 No Limit Hold’em Black Chip Bounty
Blinds: 3k/6k/1k ante

All three players pushed chips around the table in a series of big hands. Each took their time atop the leaderboard with a significant double up but we almost had a winner in one huge hand.

Steven Bennett opened the action to 24,000 on the button and Richard Kessler called in the small blind. Man Le responded with a three-bet to 40,000 from the small blind and Bennett called the bet. Kessler went from a caller to a raiser when he shoved all-in for less than 100,000 which prompted Le to moved all-in over the top.

Bennett was conflicted and finally folded 5c5s face up then cursed his play when Kessler showed As3c and Le Ad2c. Le hit the Qc9s2s flop but Kessler came from behind with the 3h turn. Kessler doubled once again on the 8s river to get back in it.

They decided on an impromptu 10-minute break and will return shortly.

Steven Bennett – 403,000
Richard Kessler – 257,000
Man Le – 114,000
