Chris Bolek, Winner, Event 3
Chris Bolek, Winner, Event 3

Chris Bolek lives right down the road from Seminole Coconut Creek Casino so it’s no surprise to see him here on a regular basis for the Coco Poker Open. After falling short in Event 1, Bolek came back for another try in Event 3 and it was a good thing he did as he emerged victorious taking home $16,442 and the trophy for his victory.

The 25 year old Bolek said afterwards “it’s always nice to win” – something the young poker pro has started to become accustomed to as this is his fourth victory in the last two years. Bolek moved above $480,000 in lifetime tournament earnings with this score.

There were two hands at the final table that propelled Bolek to victory. The first was when he called down Paul Balzano on a board of Kd7h6d9sKs with 8h8d and was correct when Balzano turned over the bluff with As3c.

The second hand saw Bolek take a chunk of chips off of Richard Leger when Bolek check-raised Leger’s 25K bet on the AsAhQs flop to 65K and Leger put in another raise to 125K. Bolek called and the two would check the 6d on the turn. The river was the 7h and Bolek placed out a bet of 175K and Leger would make the call with KhQc for aces and queens with a king kicker. “Ace,” said Bolek, as he turned over Ad8h to take down the pot.

Once Oleg Vayman was eliminated in 4th place when his AdKc could not outrace Howard Darnold’s 6h6d, the three remaining players made a deal giving Darnold and Leger $10,000 apiece and giving Bolek the remainder and the trophy.

Congratulations on a well earned victory Chris!

Event 3: 4th Place – Oleg Vayman ($4,803)

$560 No Limit Hold’em Deep Stack (Re-Entry)
Blinds: 12k/24k/3k ante

The two shortest stack at the table, Howard  Darnold and Oleg Vayman, would tangle with one another and it was Vayman who was at risk of elimination with AdKc. Darnold held 6h6d and would prevail when the board ran out 5c4d3hQs2c to give him a six-high straight, one notch better than Vayman’s five-high straight.

“Good luck guys,” said Vayman, eliminated in 4th place for $4,803.

Event 3: 5th Place – Paul Balzano ($3,814)

$560 No Limit Hold’em Deep Stack (Re-Entry)
Blinds: 12k/24k/3k ante

After bluffing off a good chunk of his stack to Chris Bolek, Paul Balzano moved all in first to act for 295,000 from the cutoff and Richard Leger made the call out of the big blind. They were off to the races with Balzano holding 4c4s and Leger AcKc.

“Give me something,” said Leger as the dealer put out a flop of [9]9s7h. The turn was the 8h and Leger would need a seven, eight, king, or ace to eliminate Balzano. The river was one of those cards… the Ah… and Leger clapped his hands together in celebration.

Balzano finishes in 5th place for $3,814.

1st – Daniel Genachte, $2,040
2nd – Paula Holder, $1,224
3rd – Francois Gagne, $816

Daniel Genachte emerged victorious in a small field of 24 players edging out Paula Holder when he would hit trip nines on the turn against her pocket aces after getting it all in on the nine-high flop. Genachte, originally from Belgium, added to his $101,626 lifetime earnings in tournaments with a $2,040 payday.

Congratulations Daniel!

Event 3: 6th Place – Larry Klur ($2,966)

$560 No Limit Hold’em Deep Stack (Re-Entry)
Blinds: 10k/20k/3k ante

Players wasted no time getting active with food in their bellies. On just the second hand after the break, Chris Bolek opened from the button to 45,000 and Larry Krul came along in the small blind.

Klur bet out on the Qd6c4s flop, Bolek called before Klur shoved for 219,000 after the 4h turn. Bolek took a few seconds after getting the count and called with Qc9c.

Klur said, “You got me unless a Seven comes” before tabling 8c5c. He was unable to hit his gutshot on the 5d river and the former chipleader was gone in 6th place for $2,966.

Event 4: Paula Holder – 2nd Place ($1,224)

$200 No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Blinds: 1.5K/3K Ante 500

After losing the chip lead back to Daniel Genachte, Paula Holder would get the last of her chips in the middle in a great spot with AdAs on a board of 9d5d2s and was well ahead of Genachte and his Qh9h. Fortunes would change on the turn, however, as it was the 9s to give Genachte trip nines. The river would be the Td and Holder would be eliminated in second place for $1,224.
