Michael “Shades”

The clock was ticking down on the evening when there was a ruckus at one of the tables. Dozens of people rushed over, including your trusty reporter with his camera, to see the damage.

Michael “Shades” was all smiles looking at the board that helped his Ad9d beat KsKh. His opponent flopped a set on the Kc9c5s board against his paired nine. “Shades” was 0.4% to win the hand but improved on the 9s turn to one out going to the river.

The case 9h hit the river and was exactly what he needed for quads over kings full to the cause of the loud, late scene.

Al Gomez

With the clock running down on the day, Al Gomez faced an all in bet for 37,700 from an early position player. He pulled out the calling chips, checked the clock, thought some more, and eventually called.

“Show me pocket eights,” Gomez pleaded.

“Two over,” was the reply he received.

Gomez: 9c9h
Opponent: AcTs

Gomez was flipping for most of his stack and his pair held as the board ran out Kd6h3hQc5d to move him up near 100,000.

Level 13: 800/1,600 with a 200 ante

Carlo Buzzetta

The pace is much quicker than anticipated and players are hitting the rail in a hurry. Only 80 players remain after the final break with the goal set for 65 at the end of the day.

Carlo Buzzetta did his part when he put his last 46,000 in the middle with QdJd on the Kd3h3sTd board. His open-ended straight flush draw had 19 river outs against As9s and the 6d was good enough to give him the pot. Buzzetta didn’t hit his royal flush but the regular flush did the job.

Event 2D: Anthony Cicali Comes in From the Cold

Anthony Cicali

Flight D is on the verge of dropping down into double-digit players remaining and we expect the pace to be slower tonight than the previous three flights. This is their last chance to advance.

Anthony Cicali is grinding away in the front of the room, making a rare appearance in this part of the poker world. The Northeast grinder is in the Sunshine State for some WSOP Circuit action where the weather is much better and aiming for his first ring. Cicali is cruising right along and we sitting with 82,000 after the second break.

Big Blind: AsQh
Moreno: 9c9h

Moreno was ahead for the double but his opponent took the race lead on the QdTd6h flop. Moreno needed to hit a set to stay in the game but blanked the 3h turn and Ks river to exit short of Day 2.

David Inselberg

Flight C is done and wrapped up for the evening with 63 players remaining of the starting 518 entries. David Inselberg grabbed the late lead and held on to set aside 242,500 chips for tomorrow’s restart. That is good enough for the second overall on the Day 2 counts so far, behind Phil Knapic’s 297,000, but there are a few players in Flight D that can catch them.

Full chip counts will be posted as soon as they are available.

Top ten Flight C stacks:

Chip Reed

Flight C players didn’t sit back and wait for the end of day, they lit off some big hands as the clock counted down.

One saw Chip Reed get his chips in the middle with Ah6h after the 7h4h2d flop against an inferior flush draw Kh7h and top flopped pair Td7s. He didn’t have to wait long for his heart when the dealer put out the 3h turn to lock up the hand. He stacked up a nice Day 2 castle and sent two players out.

On the last hand of the night, Event 1 final table member Danny Calway-Fagen was involved with a three-way all-in pot. It was anticlimactic for him and one opponent, they each had aces while the other player hit the rail with her pocket nines while they chopped the pot.

Play is wrapping up for the flight and we will check the counts when they are official.
