Event 6 of the World Series of Poker Circuit at the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek was a $580 buy-in No Limit Hold’em Six-Max tournament. The event kicked off Tuesday with 148 entries and narrowed to just five remaining by the time Day 1 wrapped. Headlining the late stages of action was eight-time ring winner Ari Engel. When the dust settled, though, it was Steve Hagar capturing the title along with the top prize of $21,088 and the WSOP Circuit’s token prize, a gold ring.

Hagar’s journey to the winner’s circle saw him start Day 2 as the short stack among the five returning players. Chip leader Dimitry Agrachov was tops, while the aforementioned Engel sat second. Engel mixed it up early, getting aggressive with king-high in a monster pot versus Gary Lucci. Engel bluffed all three streets, firing his last roughly 200,000 on the river. Lucci called with pocket fives and they were good enough to take the pot and eliminate one of the Circuit’s most decorated players in fifth.

With Engel on the rail, Bryce McVay went next in fourth and Agrachov in third. Lucci enjoyed the chip lead heads-up versus Hagar, but Hagar quickly doubled to get within shouting distance. From there, Hagar picked up a straight against Lucci’s two pair and gained the advantage heads up. On the final hand, his two overs caught up to Lucci’s pair and Lucci was eliminated runner-up for $13,037.

Hagar is a 58-year-old real estate developer from White Lake, Michigan. He’s recorded a number of cashes but today’s $21,088 and another $20,331 score in 2015 make up the vast majority of his almost $70,000 in career earnings.

The 2018 WSOP Circuit at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek marks the property’s first time to host a “12 rings in 12 days” series. Headlining the schedule is the $1,000,000 guaranteed Main Event slated for Friday and Saturday.
