Event 5 on the Coco Poker Open schedule made it worth it for players to get a little aggressive. Each player had a $100 bounty on their head and it was possible to make a profit before hitting the payout portion of the tournament. When the tournament wrapped up in the early morning hours, poker dealer Patrick Irwin was the next Coco Poker Open Champion.

The tournament had a $240 buy-in with $100 of it going towards that player’s bounty. Knock them out, get a black casino chip with $100. The tournament drew 63 entrants and the prize pool was worth $20,000 with the last nine set to get paid.

The tournament quickly played down to the final table ten with local regular Carl Pipitone playing two games at once. He was deep in the Coco Poker Open Championship but was taking his shot at making the money in Event 5.

It didn’t work out for him and he was eliminated in 10th place to put the rest of the field in the money. Larry Gradus was also there and he completed his run in fifth place, a nice follow-up to his sixth place finish last night in Event 4.

The final table had a fast pace on a Saturday evening and the heads-up action stayed the same. Irwin defeated William Dickinson when his QcJd outflopped Dickinson’s KhJs to finish it off and leave him as the Event 5 champion.

It was a great run for Irwin despite an early set back.

“I was down to only 1,275 in the third level,” Irwin commented. “But I stuck around and made it this far.”

This was the second big result Irwin booked here in recent months. He was part of a three-way chop in the recurring $130 buy-in August Deep Stack event for (then) the biggest tournament cash of his career. Along the way today, Irwin also picked up four black chip bounties plus he was able to keep his own.

Irwin is a cash game poker dealer at the Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood Casino and he did well during his time outside the dealer’s box. Congrats to Irwin and everyone else who cashed at the final table.
