A little more than one year ago to the day,  Robert Wachtel (Atlanta, GA) defended his title in the PLO 8 or Better event of the Lucky Hearts Poker Open. Wachtel and Joe Treffiletti (Fort Lauderdale) strike a deal to end the tournament before playing any hands heads up.

Wachtel had a commanding chip lead and gave up $402 from the $4,014 top prize to end the tournament.

“I can’t believe I defended my title,” said Wachtel who was part of an 8-way chop last year when the tournament was held at Hard Rock, Hollwood. “To win two years in a row takes a lot.”

And it’s been a couple of good weeks for Treffiletti who picked up his second recorded career cash. He was part of a chop in the same event in December during the Fun in the Sun Open at Hollywood.

Wachtel and Treffiletti struck the deal after Wachtel knocked out Jordan Chizik (Fort Lauderdale), in third place after Chizik had been the chip leader most of the day.

“Big hand for the chip lead,” said Chizik who went out when he flopped three pairs, but is run down by Wachtel who turned a higher two pairs for most of the chips in play.

Fourth place went to Michael Moed (Miami Beach), who has 5 career Omaha H/L titles to his credit, including two at Hollywood in 2013. Meanwhile Joey Prosper (Miami) finished 5th for his 10th final table in the last year, including one in the Rock N Roll Poker Open at Hollywood in November.
