(Coconut Creek, FL) — The first event of the World Series of Poker Circuit at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek concluded during the early morning hours of Friday. The series opener was a $400 buy-in one-day event with $50,000 guaranteed. The 269-entry field easily bested that figure with an $88,770 prize pool. Following roughly 15 hours of play, it was Roberto Bendeck that earned the title along with $21,749 and a WSOP Circuit gold ring.

Bendeck’s family came to the States from Honduras and he was born in Miami. He has been in South Florida fulltime for five years and resides with his wife and two children. Friday morning’s Event 1 win moved the recreational grinder’s career earnings to just under $175,000 and marked another highlight in recent successes that included a 7th-place finish in Hollywood’s November $3,500 WPT Championship.

“It was a very tough final table,” Bendeck said of Event 1. “Heads up, from the start, Nick Yunis had the chip lead and he was directly to my left. He made everything miserable for me. But, the flips held and I made some good calls and some good lay downs — some bad ones, too. Things ran my way.”

Yunis has had some recent success, too, finishing in 10th place in Hollywood’s $1,100 WPTDeepStacks Main Event last month.

Event 1 at Coconut Creek drew a strong field with multiple gold bracelet winners among the crew. Bendeck ultimately can hang his hat on having outlasted notable pros like Athansios Polychronopolous, Chris Tryba, Jonathan Hilton and Jason Young. The top 27 players finished in the money with Ory Hen (11th), Young (15th), Hilton (16th) and Raminder Singh (27th) joining Bendeck as cashers in the tournament.

Roberto Bendeck played a patient game, doubled up once as the heads-up short stack, and then did it again. Shortly after his first double, he took the lead when his held against Yunis’ .

Yunis dropped to 1,100,000 and moved all in from the button to get a quick call from Bendeck.

A tough spot for Yunis with his suited face cards outkicked. The board ran and Bendeck never had a sweat as he earned his first career WSOP Circuit ring.

Roberto Bendeck was getting shorter and Nick Yunis was making a lot of shoves to pick up the small pots. Sitting on the button again, Yunis put Bendeck all in again and this time it was called for Bendeck’s last 690,000.

Bendeck was ahead for the needed double and moved further out front on the flop. The turn and river were safe for the double.

“Whew,” Bendeck joked. “That hand locked like aces at this point.”

There were no major hands over the next level but Nick Yunis continued to apply the pressure against Roberto Bendeck. Yunis put him all-in on several hands but Bendeck did not bite but the chips flowed to the 2-seat.

Nick Yunis began to claw his way back to the lead before catching a big hand. He limped his button, Robert Bendeck checked his option, and the flop came . Bendeck checked, Yunis bet 50,000 and Bendeck called to see the turn.

Bendeck checked, Yunis bet 100,000 and Bendeck check-raised to 330,000. Yunis checked his cards, called the raise, and the river was . Bendeck checked one more time, Yunis put out a big stack for a 565,000 bet, and Bendeck tossed in a calling chip.

Matthew Lambrecht limped from the small blind and Roberto Bendeck moved all in from the big blind with the chip lead. Lambrecht checked his cards and called at risk for ~850,000.

It was an unconventional race that saw Bendeck take the lead on the flop. The turn did not help and Lambrecht was eliminated in third place after the river.

Shortly after the break, Jermie Anderson opened to 105,000 and Roberto Bendeck shipped in from the big blind. Anderson quickly called with a race to double.

On the heels of Bryan Clark going out, Arkadiy Tsinis open-shoved from the hijack for ~500,000 and Roberto Bendeck moved all in as well with a slightly bigger stack from the cutoff. The button and blinds released and the hands were tabled.
