Sonny “Sky” Lee (Boca Raton) is one of the first players to cash and is happy to squeak his short stack into the money.  After collecting his $1,086 min cash, Lee buys into the 6 pm tournament (Event 3, $250 buy-in) and then jumps into a cash game.

“I already have my seat for the main (Championship),” he says after qualifying through Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood’s cash game hours promotion that led him winning his seat in a free roll.

Lee is semi-retired which frees him up to play plenty of poker.

Players at the Lucky Hearts Poker Open are now 2 for 2 in guarantees as the $10k Guarantee has been hit and registration closed.

It’s a fun group on the opposite side of the Stax Poker Lounge from where Event 1 is set up.

“Make sure my wife knows I’m here,” laughs Ron Halperin (Lake Worth), “and make sure you get my wedding ring in the picture.” Halperin says his wife Nat is part of the Seminole tribe and his daughter Po, is short for Pocahontas.

Meanwhile Martin Zamani (Boca Raton) says, “how about a 7,” who needs to hit the river for a higher full house. And with that, a 7 magically appears and Zamani gets the knockout to take his stack to 35k.

“I never fold, these guys know that.”

We’ll update the photo gallery throughout the day, but here’s a look at some of the friendly faces in the field:

Meyer Moving up the Chip Counts
Meyer Moving up the Chip Counts

“I’ll only be here five minutes,” laments Sandra Meyer (Weston) who came back with 19k (6 bb), 141st out of 143 returning Day 2 players. Several big hands late Meyer is up to 250k (63 bb).

On her first hand, Meyer was all in with Qh Th vs the Kx Qx of Dimitry Agrachov and flopped a Ten to double-up

Meyer proceeded to flop a straight with AK for a nice pot, and then she hit a doozy. Meyer was all in with KQ on a Queen high flop for 100k, but in bad shape against Agrachov’s pocket Aces.

“Make sure you mention Jill,” says Meyer of her new favorite dealer, “she’s awesome.” This coming after a Queen on the river (trips) got her a knockout and took her stack to well over 200k.

Meyer isn’t your classic chip and a chair story, but it’s a significant comeback.
