Event 7 was one of the more popular formats today, Heads Up No Limit Hold’em, and the tournament drew 50 players to the Pavilion. After six grueling matches over two days, Antonio Campbell won the Heads Up Championship for $3,680.
The first round of the tournament was played in the Pavilion but it was moved upstairs to the Stax Poker Lounge for the rest of the matches on Day 1. The quarterfinal matches featured some great players but it was Campbell coming back for the last two matches along with Yuan Shen, Brayden Fritzshall, and Christopher Elderkin.
Campbell and Shen both won their matches quickly and settled in for a long final heads up battle. The lead changed several times but it was Campbell who won out in the end when his held up against Shen’s . Campbell had his father on the rail for inspiration and celebrated with him afterwards.
The South Carolina resident had a tough road to the title. His string of wins went through David Greeley, Gregory Marcus, Evan Snow, and Nancy Birnbaum all before taking down Fritzshall and Shen. It was a well earned victory.
