Robert Tanner, Event 4 Champion

Event 4 on the Seminole Coconut Creek World Series of Poker Circuit schedule was built for a quick run a WSOP Circuit ring. The $365 buy-in Double Stack Turbo drew 256 entries and Robert Tanner had to battle to capture his first major title along with $18,810.

The father of seven was supported by his wife the entire tournament and she was the impetus for Tanner coming to The Pavilion this morning to play in the $65 satellite. He won his seat into Event 4 and worked his way through a tough field and some bad beats.

“I just had to walk away and get over it,” Tanner commented. He had aces and kings twice at the final table with only one of the big hands holding. Tanner was the short stack at the fast-moving final table but he kept coming back until he was heads up with David Gunas for the title.

Gunas has past success and was looking for his second career WSOP Circuit title, his first coming in October at our sister room in Hollywood. He was wearing his tradition cape and began heads-up with a lead over Tanner but it did not last long.

The two had their chips in the middle and Tanner’s small pair was better than Gunas’ smaller pair of deuces to give him the win.

Tanner stayed tough and overcame a talented final table to book the biggest win of his short career.

“I only started playing this year (2017),” he commented. “The greatest joy in life is enjoying life.”
