COCO SPRING SERIES

GRINDING THE WAY TO DAY 2

Just about any day of the week, you could come into the poker room at Seminole Coconut Creek a little after 6pm, and there would be a good chance that you would find poker player Miguel Martinez grinding his way through the tournament field. With the Coco Poker Spring Series taking over the normal tournament schedule, nothing has changed. The first flight of the $50,000 Guaranteed tournament is under way and 13 of the 137 entries are slated to move on to Day 2 and get a piece of the $50,000 prize pool, and there he is as usual, Miguel Martinez is on his way to day 2. Spectators nod their hat, looking on and they will tell you that it wasn’t easy.

After being medium to low stacked for hours, Miguel decided to be aggressive when the pressure was on. With 16 players remaining, he went all in before the flop with pocket fives and got called by a player with a 6,3 in their hand. The flop came out 7, 8, T and with his opponent rooting for a 9 and not getting it, he managed to nearly double up and take a healthy chip stack of more than 100,000 into day 2.
