By her own account, Nancy Birnbaum was down to 3,000 chips, but that didn’t deter her. She stuck it out, spun her stack up and now sits on holdings of more than 100,000. The Fort Lauderdale pro is the chip leader with the field sitting at right around 40 players remaining.

Her tablemates are doing their best to combat her, though. Birnbaum is a member of the Blue Shark Optics team, and as such, has a signature pair of sunglasses with the company — a pair two players at Birnbaum’s table just so happen to be wearing.

The clock has been stuck at 99 entries for some time. With registration and re-entry available for about 30 more minutes, that number is expected to grow a touch and see the final Flight A attendance figure hit triple digits. While that’s still a touch shy of the 139 needed per flight to hit the guarantee, it bodes well for the event with Friday and Saturday’s flights expected to be the biggest.

We’ll take a closer look at the field size after registration closes and the numbers are finalized.

Level 5 is here and the clock shows 83 entries. Antes have now kicked in and the chips are prepped to starting flying. The first couple hours of play were fairly slow with a handful of big stacks emerging, but no one told Martin Robbins that. He turned his 16,000 starting chips into better than 55,000 and leads the way midway through Level 5.

One of the other tournament big stacks belongs to Jacquelyn Scott. Scott, a local realtor, is a regular on the Florida felt and owns more than $200,000 in career earnings.

Notable stacks following break:

Martin Robbins – 56,175
Jacquelyn Scott – 43,375
Javier Sarache – 21,200
Stu Paterson – 20,675
Michael Newman – 6,975
