(Coconut Creek, FL) — Custis Daye never played in a World Series of Poker Circuit event until yesterday. He bought into the $3,250 High Roller tournament, the biggest buy-in on the schedule, and outlasted some of the toughest opponents in the game to win the first WSOPC event he entered.

Dayes was one of 70 entries in this year’s $100,000 High Roller and the tournament more than doubled the guaranteed prize pool. He showed no fear and was at or near the top of the counts throughout Day 1 when he came into Day 2 in third place of the 19 remaining players.

Registration was open until the start of Day 2 and we had five players join late. The field quickly played down to its final table where action slowed as the money approached with seven getting some money.

Former SHRPO PLO champ Corey Burbick was eliminated in eighth place on burst the bubble. The talented group of players remaining included Phil Hui, Jonathan Kramer, Tony Utnage, Chad Eveslage, and defending High Roller champion Dominique Mosley.

Each hit the payout desk until Daye was heads-up with Hui. This was a chance for Hui to earn his fifth WSOPC ring but the match did not last long. Daye had a big chip lead and Hui was at risk on the first hand, when Daye hit a two-out river to end the High Roller right there.

Daye was happy and excited about winning such a big tournament. He was all smiles as he accepted the congratulations from those in The Pavilion. The Jamaican transplant took home $73,400 for his first WSOPC experience and a ring that might never leave his finger.
