Championship: Slow Goings

WPT Seminole Hard Rock Lucky Hearts Poker Open Championship

Blinds 2K/4K Ante 500

In one hour and 15 minutes we have lost four players to give us 59 players remaining. At this pace, we’ll get to 36 players at about 7 am. Of course things will speed up once we make the money. Matt Waxman was down to just over 200K an hour ago but is now sitting with over 500K in front of him. “Swings. If there’s one thing I can say about tournament poker, it’s that. Swings,” said Waxman.

Championship: Locals Surge To Top

WPT Seminole Hard Rock Lucky Hearts Poker Open Championship

Blinds 1.5K/3K Ante 500

Michael Laake from Boca Raton has been sitting on top of the chip counts for over an hour now. He’s been joined by Mukul Pahuja who hails from Coconut Creek. The two accomplished professionals have 610K and 580K respectively. Pahuja moved up to that count when he recently took out a player when his set of 7’s was better than his opponent’s top two pair. Another local, Greg Marcus from Miami rounds out the top 3.

There are 63 left, 9 away from the money.

Event 13: Recap & Results

Lucky Hearts Poker Open at Coconut Creek
$200 Double Stack Turbo No Limit Hold ‘Em

Entries: 227      Prize Pool: $40,000

Recap

If you were looking for fast paced poker action today, there was no better place than Event 13 of the 2014 Lucky Hearts Poker Open. It was a Double Stack Turbo event with 15 minute levels that would see a field of 227 entrants whittled down to a winner in a little more than 8 hours of play.

27 would make the money and it would be Gerardo Belliard who would sneak in under the wire in 27th place. Other familiar faces that would make the money included Robert Transue, Patrick Heneghan, and Leroy Grant. Stuart Marshak would be eliminated in 9th place with well known local players James Miller finishing in 7th and Steven McKoy in 4th.

Once they were three handed, with the blinds high and moving fast they decided to make a deal. Finishing in 3rd place was Robert Zuckerman who had an excellent series, cashing for what he stated was his 5th time of the series – impressive indeed. The runner up was Oneil McCallla, a local player with numerous final tables and several wins to his name in the local tournament scene.

The winner was 43 year old business owner Eric Piderit from Weston, Florida who was making his first trip to Coconut Creek in over a decade. “My biggest hand was a set of 5’s and another hand where I hit a full house with 5’s. Fives were good to me,” Piderit said, adding with a grin “I also had Kings twice but I told them I had them a third time. I guess it’s ok to tell them I was lying about it now.” When asked what he was going to do with his winnings, Eric gave the response typical of most married poker players… “My wife will get about 90% of it.” At least it’s not 100% Eric!

Event 12 Recap & Results

Seminole Hard Rock Poker presents
Lucky Hearts Poker Open at Coconut Creek
$560 No Limit Hold’Em (Re-entry)
February 8-9, 2014

Entries: 48
Prize Pool: $30,000

Recap

This two day tournament ended with Murad “Malik” Khan (Toronto, CA) and Ronny Beda (Miami Beach) agreeing to an even chop with Khan taking the trophy; both players win $8,861.

Khan and Beda survived a five hour five-handed marathan that lasted nearly three hours. But once Jermaine Phang (Pompano Beach) was knocked out in fifth place, the flood gates opened.

Shana Matthews, who had her QQ cracked by Khan’s set of deuces, finished in fourth place.  The hand gave Khan the final table chip lead.

Howard Hobbs’ (Hollywood) exit in third set the stage for the heads up deal.

48 entries began the tournament that featured a $30,000 prize pool.

Alex Michaels (Miami) finished in 6th place, while Nick Gellepis (Tallahassee), Tim Banks (PEI, Canada), Dennis Rodriguez (Sunrise) and Jay Ramano (Parkland) also got a piece of the action.

Khan is a 39 year-old courier who took advantage of the full Lucky Hearts schedule.  After being eliminated in the Championship Event, he jumped into Event 12 and it paid off in his largest career cash.

Khan, who is vacation with his family in Floriday, likes to escape Toronto winters to play at Coconut Creek and Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood.

Championship: Dinner Break

WPT Seminole Hard Rock Lucky Hearts Poker Open Championship

The remaining 74 players are on a 75 minute dinner break (return at approximately 9 pm). The average stack is 168K and they will be returning to blinds of 1.5K/3K (56 big blinds).

Julius Zwail, our friendly 94 year old retired NY police officer, has sadly been eliminated at the hands of John DiBella when his pocket Aces were behind DiBella’s Q-4 on a Q-8-2-4 board. Others joining Julius on the rail include Dan Heimiller, Harrison Gimbel, Darryl Fish, and Mike Linster.

Among those still in the running are players like Anthony Zinno who just doubled up with A-T against A-Q when he got it all in on an A-T-6 flop and it held. Local boy Mukul Pahuja also is sitting pretty after getting paid off on a 80K+ river bet with a full house. They are joined by notables and locals such as Ian O’Hara, Ryan D’Angelo, Joey Weissman, Matt Waxman, Ronit Chamani, Corrie Wunstel, Lily Kiletto, John Holley,  Shannon Shorr, Justin Zaki, Keven Stammen, Jess Cohen, Brett Bader, Tony Cousineau, and Ronnie Bardah.

Local boy Michael Laake is currently sitting on top of the leader board with over 600K in chips.
