Event 8 was the second small buy-in, big prize pool tournament on the 2016 Coco Poker Open schedule and it drew a nice crowd of 255 entrants. They blasted through the levels and David DeBernardi was the last player standing after a dominant final table.

They were all aiming for a piece of the $30,000 prize pool and the last 27 players picked up some cash. The big money was reserved for the winner and we had $8,400 waiting for the next champion. It took several hours to get into the money and another two to form the final table. Some of our regulars were represented including Lisa Teabagy, Frank Giordano, and Rob Kessler.

Rafael Indriago continued his great series and moved to the top of the Coco Poker Open Leaderboard thanks to another final table. His 5th place finish here went along with his Event 4 title and Event 7 runner-up finish.

There was some talk about making a deal but David DeBernardi wanted to play it out and dominated from that point. He knocked out most of the players at the final table and quickly won the heads up match with Dan Mongeluzi to earn the title.

This was only DeBernardi’s second recorded cash (his first coming during the 2014 Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Winter Poker Open) and a nice way to add to his career totals.

Rob Kessler lost most of his stack when his AcTh could not beat Dan Mongeluzi’s Ah8h thanks to the 8d6s5s8c7d board.

He’s was left with crumbs and moved all-in from the button after Rudy Vazquez open-shoved from under the gun. Mongeluzi came along and shoved his small blind to make it a three-way run out.

Mongeluzi: KhKs
Kessler: 9s7s
Vazquez: As6h

Mongeluzi was ahead and had both opponents covered. The board came 9c7d2cKc2d to give Mongeluzi the double KO.

Lisa Teabagy and David DeBernardi were heads up to the Ts9c8c flop before Teabagy moved all-in for her last 625,000. DeBernardi called with JhJc and Teabagy needed help with flopped top pair KhTh.

She couldn’t beat the over pair as the board finished with the 6c turn and Qd river to send her out in 6th place.
